Flower show in city from Friday

Pune The Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India has organised ‘Buds N’Blooms 2009,’ an annual flower show and garden festival, at Empress Botanical Garden between January 23 and 25 between 9 am and 8 pm.

Vijay Pokarna, patron-in-chief of the Indian Rose Federation, will inaugurate the show. A book on flowers, ‘Pushpa Katha, ’ written by Dr Prakash Joglekar, will be released opn the occasion by Suresh Pingale, honorary secretary of Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India.

There will be several demonstrations, workshops, street plays, puppet shows along with the interactions with experts to provide information regarding nature and wildlife. Besides, the feature competitions in roses, flowering plants, cut flowers, potted plants, vegetables, fruits, bonsais will also be a major draw, chairperson of Flower Show Committee, Suman Kirloskar, said in a press release.

The prize distribution ceremony will be held on January 25 at 12.30 pm in the presence of Bhagyashree Patil, director, Rise N Shine Floritech. The guest of honour will be Prof S D Mahajan, trustee, Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India.
