Kolkata Around 1 pm on Friday, a long queue waited in silence, hiding its impatience, outside the closed shutters of the Flurys on the Park Street.

After all, the majestic tea room was coming home on the ground floor of Stephen Court that was ravaged by fire on March 23.

After a break of nearly 39 days, Flurys today finally came back to where it belongs after running out of the Park, located across the road.

Another famous landmark, Music World, also opened its doors after nearly 40 days to the avid music lovers of the city. Although it will formally reopen tomorrow, a good number of loyal patrons were already seen checking out the latest offers.

Coming back to Flurys, it may have been force to temporarily set up shop elsewhere after the devastating fire, its loyal patrons never switched sides. “Counter sales had also been satisfactory”, said Indira Basu, director (PR and Communications), The Park.

Today, within an hour of its reopening, half of the delicious confectioneries on offer were exhausted. “Old patrons and Flurys lovers are extremely satisfied and delighted to return to their favourite hang-out,” said Rajiv Khanna, manager, Flurys.

As for the Music World, its honchos now hope to recover the lost ground soon. “We have incurred a loss of around Rs 1 crore over the last month but hope to regain it in a few days. This city loves music and we are looking forward to once again get the usual crowd that makes this place come alive,” said Ananya Pandit, manager (operations), RPG Group.

The management at both the places said they hope to hold commemorative services for the deceased in the fire in the coming days after all the Stephen Court residents move back to the building.
