At a meeting of its members on Sunday, the committee agreed to look into the flyover proposal positively and take a decision after seeing the plans and designs. “We are awaiting a formal proposal from BMC and will accordingly take a decision accordingly,” said Vivek Jain, chairman, media and marketing committee (RWITC). He added that the members were “willing to look into the proposal.”

Members who were earlier aghast at the idea of a flyover above the racecourse reversed their stands saying they were willing to give their approval. “We want to see the locations and the design of the flyover. If it is not too close to the stables to affect the horses, there shouldn’t be any problem,” he said.

The traffic department had proposed a 1.5-kilometre long elevated corridor starting from NSCI junction at Hornby Vellard Road up and over the race course stables, branching out to meet King George Beggar’s Home at Haines Road to ease traffic flow on Dr Annie Besant Road and Haji Ali junction from the sea link.

Meanwhile, the RWITC has also agreed to ‘regularise’ the unauthorised construction of two eateries, Olive and Indigo and will be sending documents for the same to the BMC. A hearing regarding irregularities of the lease clauses of Gallops restaurant at the racecourse along with other breaches of agreements will be taken up on Tuesday.
