Though the government has sanctioned Rs 115 crore for changing the skyline of the Focal Point area in the city, at the same time industrialists have also been asked to follow the norms.

A 22-member Focal Point Development Committee has been constituted to look into the quality of work and also ensure that the industry contributes to the development of the area.

As per a survey conducted by the MC and even by the committee members, the roads have been severely damaged in Phase 4 and 8 of the area due to industries releasing water in the MC sewer lines which are not equipped to handle the flow of industrial water.

It was also found that only a few units release treated water while the rest release the polluted water spoiling the green belts.

Confirming the same, Avtar Singh, general secretary of Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) said, “Apart from looking at the quality of the work, the committee will also be monitoring the industry.”

Of the sanctioned 115 crore, Rs 27 crore has already been earmarked for the construction of roads. The foundation-laying ceremony, which was scheduled for today, has been postponed for the time being.

Taking concrete measures, MC has also assigned ten sweepers only for the Focal Point area to clean the chocked sewer lines in all the eight phases. Once the sewer lines are clear, water will not overflow on the roads, reason industrialists.
