Pune, January 6 Some smiled, a few showed the thumbs up sign, a handful did not care while a few others brazenly violated the signal. This was the experience of members Students Social Responsibility Cell (SSRC) of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management during their Road Safety Week campaign which was organised as part of the DSK Toyota Dream Run 2008.

The safety week campaign, that took off December 27 and ended on January 6, was conducted at four junctions simultaneously. There were six students in each junction. The junctions were in Sangvi, Pune University road, Bharati Vidyapeeth road and Senapati Bapat road. Those who were not part of the SSRC also joined the campaign.

The students campaigned by holding banners and giving "thank you" cards to motorists, two-wheeler riders and cyclists urging them to traffic rules, don helmets and put on seat belts.

"The response was good. Travellers read the banners and also appreciated them. We had made different types of banners dealing with various issues of traffic," says Saehee Ghim, a member of SSRC.

The students say traffic policemen cooperated with them. At some places, they also gave away the "thank you" cards to people. "When we asked the motorists to tie the seat belts, they followed our requests. It gave us a sense of satisfaction when the people follow our instructions," says Jay Thakkar, another member.
