Ahmedabad Tight security arrangements have been put in place across Gujarat for the Republic Day celebrations.

The Gujarat Police top brass do not want to take any chance as intelligence inputs indicate possibilities of Mumbai-like terror attacks in the state.

“A high alert has been sounded in the state and our security arrangements are foolproof,” Gujarat Home Secretary T S Bisht said.

Over 700 personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) will be deployed at the State Reserve Police Ground in Godhra alone, as the town hosts this year's state-level Republic Day parade, which will be followed by over 30 tableaux. Chief Minister Narendra Modi will be present in Godhra for the celebrations.

“All city police commissioners have been instructed to be alert so that the prestigious day passes off peacefully,” a senior police officer said.

Electronic surveillance has also been stepped up along with vehicle checking at city borders and night patrolling. Special security arrangements have been made for important installations like airports, railway stations and bus depots across the state.

Sources in the Police Bhavan said that a special meeting of top police brass was held in Gandhinagar last week to review the security arrangements for the Republic Day.
