The morning fog and the cold winter breeze could not curb the enthusiasm of the St Johns Old Boys Association (SJOBA) members. Nearly 240 participants in 60 teams participated in SJOBA Tag Heuer Treasure Hunt organized as part of SJOBA’s annual reunion. Each team was headed by a Johnian or his spouse and they drove around the city looking for answers to the clues in their cars ranging from the magnificent Mercedes to the old workhorse Maruti 800. “To ensure overall safety, we changed the format this year so that participants would not have to race from one place to another,” informed Chitranjan Agarwal, President, SJOBA. Sahil Sood and his team won the Hunt. Earlier, Founder President of SJOBA, Mac Sarin administered the Oath of Sportsmanship and Honesty to al the participants.
Small Wonder
The Strawberry Fields Kindergarten’s Annual Sporty Musical Soirée presented a 90-minute colourful and musical pageant of sporty items. In bright tracksuits they presented the March Past, danced to songs, pranced and did simple acrobatics to foot tapping Scottish numbers and conveyed many a message to the audience. From being good buddies to making place for every individual under the sun to cheering sportsmen in the upcoming Commonwealth games, the items and races were a creative mix of talent and spontaneity.
Guest of honour, Lt General TK Sapru, GOC-in-C, Western Command, was happy to note the way academics had been integrated with music and sports in the formative years of school going children. He also urged parents to send their children to the armed forces saying, “The country needs such children to don the garb of the men in uniform and to contribute in strengthening the foundations of the country.” The programme ended with a surprise visit by Santa who arrived on a vintage car with goodies for all. Christmas carols and good wishes for the New Year were cheerfully echoed.
Step by Step
Firstep Montessori School, Sector 7, Panchkula, celebrated its silver jubilee with tiny tots dancing to the tunes of their childhood. “Ours is the oldest school in the tricity imparting education through the Montessori ideology. The basis of the method is to educate children in a manner that would make them responsible and well balanced adults,” says Madhu Trehan, Principal. Students and their parents enjoyed quite a time in the celebrations at the school premises.
Fun on Road
Joshi Group held ‘Joshi Family Fun Drive- 08’ for the tricity based families of the owners of Hyundai cars. A first of its kind by any Hyundai Motor dealer in India, the fun drive was flagged off by Ram Niwas, Home Secretary, UT Chandigarh. BK Lee, Regional Manager, Hyundai Motors and Balwinder Singh, Regional Sales Manager, Hyundai Motors and Rohtash Kumar, Dy General Manager Punjab National Bank, Chandigarh, were also present on the occasion. Prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7500 and Rs 5,000 respectively were given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners. There were special prizes for women drivers and senior citizens. Apart from treasure hunt, there were games for children, special corner for mehandi and tattoos, special food stalls and live dance performances by a dance troupe.
