The hunt is on
PC Jewellers in association with Tijori Entertainment and Kaleidovision hosted the auditions for the international beauty pageant, PC Jewellers Miss India Worldwide - India 2009 in Chandigarh on Friday. The city saw an overwhelming response from the pageant aspirants with around 25 contestants lining up. The finalists from each city will compete with their other counterparts from across the country.

Judging the auditions in the city was actor Savita Bhatti, classical dancer Sameera Koser and social counselor Bittu Sandhu. Today, in the third phase of the contest, introduction and talent rounds where the contestants had to prove their mettle in front of the judges, took place.

After this round, 20 deserving finalists would undergo specially designed exclusive grooming sessions by the Mehar Bhasin Academy which would entail a rigorous training program in Delhi. After their training session, they would compete in the grand finale where a winner would be crowned to represent India on the global stage of the Indian diaspora. This year, the grand pageant finale would take place on January 31 in New Delhi which would showcase sizzling performances by Bollywood mainstream stars including Kareena Kapoor.

New Innings
The Banyan Tree School, Sector 48 B welcomed its new principal, Vinender Tiwana, a seasoned and eminent educationist. “It’s all because of my passion for teaching,” says Vinender, who belongs to a family of educationists from Ludhiana and is a graduate from St. Bede’s College, Shimla. She also holds a double M.A (English & History), M.Ed with Specialization in Child Psychology and Exceptional Children. Principal V.Tiwana brings with her a rich teaching-cum-administrative experience of 27 years in premier institutes of the tricity. “I started my career in 1981 with Vivek School in Sector 9 followed by six years at DAV School, Sector 8, and then in 1998, as Principal, St Soldier’s International School, Mohali,” tells Vinender, who was recently awarded for her former school’s excellence in Computer Literacy from the Union Government of India. “I believe that a school should be a happening and fun place with a vibrant ambience where joyful learning takes place amidst a positive ethos. At The Banyan Tree School, my focus will be on implementing a well designed holistic curriculum that caters to multiple intelligence,” she’s all set for action!

Celebrations!
With the CAT result out, the city has much to cheer. While we brag of three students with a 100 percentile, at Pace Setter, an MBA coaching institute, it was time to celebrate the good result. “The students of our institute have got a total of 18 calls from different IIMs,” said DP Singh, operational head, as he cut cake with the students.
