Vehicle owners will no longer have to stand in queues at the Registering and Licensing Authority to get registration certificates (RC) for their new automobiles. For the convenience of the public, the RLA has launched a new concept under which RCs will be issued through automobile dealers. Dealers will complete all the formalities for which vehicle owner will be charged nominally.
In a recently launched move, the RLA authorities have written to the prominent automobile dealers in the city, asking them to avail themselves of the service and help their clients.
Registering and Licensing Officer Jairam said: “Letters have been dispatched to prominent automobile dealers in the city telling them about the new scheme. For instance, if a person purchases a vehicle from an automobile dealer; the dealer will get the vehicle inspected at the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office. The concerned officer at the SDM’s office will inspect the vehicle as well as the original documents, which were earlier done at the RLA office. The file comprising relevant documents will be submitted at the SDM’s office. Our employee will go to all the three SDMs’ offices around noon and collect the submitted files. The registration certificates will be issued by evening the same day.”
In case of any objections, the dealers’ representatives will be contacted by our staff, who will help the clients in getting the objections sorted out. It will not only save people’s time, but also ease out the increasing burden on the RLA officials,” Jairam added.
The RLA officials have already earmarked a separate window at RLA office in Sector 17, where the files will be scrutinised, followed by issuance of registration certificates.
The service will not only be charged by the RLA, but also the dealers, who will facilitate their clients, helping them out in getting RCs issued. The vehicle owners will be required to deposit a nominal fee in the favour of the UT Red Cross. While two-wheeler owners will be charged Rs 100 per vehicle; the charges are Rs 150 for a three-wheeler; Rs. 200 for a four-wheeler and Rs 300 for any vehicle which has a sale price of more than Rs 5 lakh.
Besides the fee to be paid in favour of the UT Red Cross, the automobile dealers will be fixing their respective fee for the service, which they shall be offering to their clients. Paying Rs 100 or Rs 200 would not be much for anybody, who owns a motor vehicle, provided he gets a satisfactory service”, a senior official at RLA said.
Overiding factors
* It will save the time of both vehicle owners and RLA officials
* The automobile dealers’ representatives will help people in completing their paperwork
* The work will be expedited, as it will also ease out the load on RLA
* There will be lesser chances of objections, as dealers’ representatives will prepare the files
