Chandigarh City motorists can now avail of a new series of registration numbers, as the Chandigarh Administration is likely to start a fresh series — CH-01-AA from the second week of November. The ongoing series — CH-04-L is likely to be discontinued once the new series is in place. The advertisements in this regard were issued by the Registering and Licensing Authority, UT, on Friday.

A senior UT official told Newsline: “We have already started receiving bookings for certain VIP registration numbers for the new series. Once the new series begins, the ongoing series CH-04-L shall be discontinued.”

Sources said the decision has been taken on directives issued by the Central Government, under which Chandigarh was allotted the registration code — CH-01. Accordingly, the Administration should have continued with the same code, rather than changing it to CH-03 or CH-04.
