New Delhi, February 22 Despite long jams at the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway toll plaza, the officialdom thinks it still meets “acceptable standards”. Secretary (Road Transport) Brahm Dutt today said the project is being reviewed closely but the concessionaire — DS Constructions — should be given time to adjust to the heavy traffic flow. “The government will not tolerate inefficiency on part of the concessionaire, or any kind of lapse,” Dutt said at a press briefing. “We are reviewing the situation very closely and almost every week, but we still do not consider it as one below all acceptable standards.”

Dutt said ministry officials will meet the concessionaire next week to discuss the issue. But, “it must be remembered that the rush at the toll plaza is also a function of the arrival of number of vehicles, and that is hardly controllable.” A V Sinha, technical committee member of NHAI, which engaged DS Constructions to implement the project, said: “The contract may specify not more than 20 seconds should be taken in toll transaction per vehicle. But what can one do in case of a tidal flow of vehicles?”
