Chandigarh A shopkeeper in Sector 10 was allegedly attacked and his shop ransacked by five youths on Saturday following an altercation over a payment of Rs 50.

According to the police, five youths came to Goyal Stores in the morning and asked for a two-litre bottle of cold drinks. When the shopkeeper asked for Rs 50, the youths claimed that they had already handed over the money to him. After some heated moments, the youths left the scene.

Nearly an hour later, the youths returned in a Maruti 800 car with swords and iron rods.

“After entering the shop, they attacked me. I ran to the rear side of the shop and locked the door. The youths started ransacking the shop and broke many items like the photostat machine and refrigerator,” the shopkeeper told the police.

Station House Officer of Sector-3 police station Inspector Har Sahai Singh said they have recorded the statements of the shopkeeper and the eyewitnesses and have made a DDR entry. “We have started investigations and will arrest the youths very soon,” added Singh.
