The cleaning of sewer lines in the city can wait for the time being. Reason: the only jet machine with the municipal corporation has been taken to Bathinda to clean the area. On the orders of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, the machine has been ferried to the district as his better half Harsimrat Badal is all set to contest Lok Sabha elections from the constituency in the Malwa belt.
The city has only two jet machines, one of which is out of order and the second has been sent to Bathinda on a special task.
Sushil Raju Thaper, Congress councillors' spokesperson, said, “We doubt that even funds from Ludhiana will be used in Bathinda municipal committee. This has not happened for the first time. It was sent to Muktsar for a number of days and had come back in a faulty condition.”
Sanjay Talwar, another Congress councillor added, “The inner city especially the Field Ganj area is badly choked and there is an urgent need to clean the area but the jet machine is not available. It is in Bathinda for more than 10 days now.”
Owing to choked sewer lines, only 70 per cent of the sewer flow reaches the Bhattian treatment plant. The remaining water goes into the Buddha Nallah. MC teams maintained that still lots of areas need to be cleaned at the moment but they added that they can wait for few days as it is not a big emergency.
