The police chief also spoke of the various drives the city force has undertaken. Regarding the domestic help verification drive being conducted by the police force, Dadwal said 32 per cent helps in the city are yet to be verified.

“In case people don’t get their helps verified, we will have to start another drive, where helps would need to get themselves verified at the police station in their area before they can take up employment. People have a misconception that their helps might run away if they get them verified, and hence are not taking part in the drive. We are going to put pressure on the helps to get verification done,” Dadwal said.

Same went for tenant verification, Dadwal said. Observing that 53 per cent of tenants in the city are not verified, Dadwal said that it is a punishable offence for house owners if they fail to get their tenants verified under IPC Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

Speaking of the senior citizen drive, Dadwal said 136 more senior citizens have registered themselves with the police and appealed to others to do the same.

Delhi Police’s anti-obscene phone call helpline is, meanwhile, has proved a success and has received 1,560 calls so far, all of which have been redressed. The helpline was introduced in December last year. The identity of the callers is kept secret, thus encouraging more women to come forward with their complaints.

In the pipeline: verification drive for two-wheelers in city

WITH the rising trend of two-wheelers being used for committing crime in the Capital, Police chief Dadwal said a special drive would be launched in which all registered motorcycle owners will need to undergo ownership verification. Dadwal said the drive will help police verify whether the motorcycles were stolen.

“We will question bike owners on whether they have a means of livelihood to afford motorbikes,” Dadwal said.

Senior police officers said the police will procure the data of registered vehicles from the Delhi transport department. “The data will be processed by crime branch officials who will filter out people who do not have a known source of income. They will be sent notices by the police and asked to present themselves at the concerned police stations,” a senior police officer said.

Officers added that the move will help them track down criminals who are not connected to the criminal gangs in the city.
