Zachareina Boutzouba, who leads the Greek contingent, The Psilopitis, says, “Punjabi culture is a totally new experience for us. We have come here for the first time and the way people have welcomed us, reacted to our performances is very very warm. The whole feeling is very overwhelming.”
Athina Liolio, another group member, explaining about her contingent says, “We are all young boys and girls who are a part of this 25-year-old cultural group of Greece. We all hail from a place called Chania and the main objective of this group is keep our heritage alive. We have travelled to various parts of the world and performed in different concerts and functions.”
Commenting on the impact of western culture in Greece, Athina says, “This phenomenon is global but then for us Greek our music and dance form an integral part of our lives. Our dances form part of all our functions rituals and so does music. See the fact is that our contingent comprises all young boys and girls, and this means that our heritage is still alive.” This cultural contingent will be performing at the Amritsar International Foklore Festival and at the Hamdard International Folklore.
