The land, located on the outskirts of Navagam village near Vanthali town of Junagadh district, is owned by a notorious bootlegger, Paba Hamir Rabari.
The police said the bootlegger and his 10 associates managed to flee from the scene.
Elsewhere, Constable Lalit Patel received injury during the raid when he came in contact with a live wire fenced around the land. He is now reported to be out of danger.
The team was headed by Junagadh Local Crime Branch Inspector J K Zala and also comprised personnel from the Vanthali town police.
The police said, while carrying out a search on the land, they came across freshly turned soil, indicating that something might be buried underneath.
An excavation revealed a huge stock of FML packed in 698 cartons worth Rs 21.50 lakh. Further search revealed FML packed in 20 cartons worth Rs 1.50 lakh in an abandoned Qualis (GJ 3 DD 4183) near the agriculture land.
The vehicle was also seized, the police said, adding that a total of 7,500 bottles of FML were recovered.
Inspector Zala said: “FML worth Rs 23 lakh have been recovered from the spot. Efforts are now on to nab the bootleggers and his accomplices.”
Zala said this is the biggest seizure of FML in the history of Junagadh.
Following the seizure, Sub-Inspector A A Belim has lodged a complaint with the Vanthali police against 11 people including Rabari and his two brothers, Haja and Gala, under various sections of the Prohibition Act.
Superintendent of Police Hari Krishna Patel said: “The act of placing live wire on the land is a much more serious offence than the violation of Prohibition Act. The bootlegger is a habitual offender and is wanted in several cases. Efforts are on to nab him and his accomplices.”
