The former Congress councillor and businessman was arrested for his alleged involvement in the sale of BPC-owned land worth Rs 45.90 lakh to city-based Bhoomi Developers.
Acting on a tip off, DCB personnel raided a farmhouse owned by his brother Utkarsh Patel in Sevasi and arrested Anuj around 2 pm. He was reportedly hiding after a city court issued an arrest warrant against him on Tuesday.
Vadodara Police Commissioner Rajan Priyadarshee said, “The DCB team arrested him from his bother’s farmhouse. He was on the run for quite some time now and the police had sought his arrest warrant.” Anuj will be produced in the court on Thursday during which the police is expected to seek his custody.
DCB inspector Kaushik Pandya could not be contacted for his comments despite several attempts.
The Vadodara Civil Court had on January 31 issued an interim stay order over the sale or transfer of the land in question to either Bhoomi Developers, or Anuj Patel. It had also directed the BPC to deposit Rs 45.90 lakh before the court, which would be put as a fixed deposit. BPC, which is a non-profit organisation involved in various training programmes, has been mired in the controversy after Anuj’s stint as its president and the land deal that he allegedly struck misusing his power.
