Ahmedabad Former Gujarat High Court judge, Justice S D Dave, will preside over the merger of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and Reliance Petroleum Ltd (RPL).

The Gujarat High Court on Thursday approved Justice Dave's name for chairing a meeting called by RPL over the merger of the two companies.

Following the joint decision regarding the merger last week, RPL, headquartered in Jamnagar, had moved an application in the High Court for holding a meeting of RPL shareholders, along with the appointment of a chairman to preside over it.

Justice Dave will now preside over the meeting on April 9, in which shareholders, secured creditors – Class I and II – and unsecured creditors, will remain present, sources familiar with the development said.

During the meeting, a resolution regarding the merger would be put to vote and after the ballot, counting will be conducted.

Subsequently, the chairman of the meeting will prepare a report to be submitted to the High Court regarding the outcome.
