New Delhi Four people have been arrested by the police for staging a robbery. The accused, who are employees of a transport company, were going to deliver 30 tonnes of copper worth Rs 70 lakh from Indore to Alwar when they informed the police about the crime.

“The owner of the truck hatched a plan to stage the robbery of his own truck and instructed his driver and helper to call the police on Saturday night from the highway, claiming that truck was looted by unknown assailants at gunpoint,” a senior police officer said.

The accused Ranbir, Ravinder, Pradeep and Sombir work with the Assam Road Line. They had informed the police that a car overtook them on the highway and forced them to stop. Then few assailants, who had guns, fled with the truck.

On Sunday, acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the four accused from Vijay Vihar. At their instance, the police recovered the truck, along with a stolen car and a country-made pistol. Involvement of other people in the crime is being investigated, the police said.
