Junagadh Political rivalry took an ugly turn in Shapur town near Junagadh on Saturday when four men came in a car and pelted stones at the office of district panchayat’s elected member, Valji Faldu.

Protesting against the incident, the Shapur Merchant Association has given an indefinite bandh call. On Sunday, the town observed a total bandh. Adequate police bandobast was made to avoid any untoward incident, said the police.

Ramesh Faldu, nephew of Valji Faldu, has lodged a complaint with Vanthali police in this regard, following which, a case under Sections 394 and 114 of the Indian Penal Code has been lodged. While no arrests have been made so far, the police said old political rivalry may have led to the incident.

According to the complaint, the four accused, Harsukh Gordhan, Gordhan Chhapara, Dhiru Gordhan and Dilip Gordhan, came around 7.30 pm on Saturday and started pelting stones at Faldu’s office-cum-PCO (Public Call Office). Later, Faldu’s supporters assembled at the place and launched a counterattack. The attackers, however, fled from the place in their car.

The merchants’ association has demanded strict action against the accused.

The police said the situation in Shapur is under control. Additional forces from Keshod, Manawadar and Bantwa police stations have been rushed to Shapur.
