Four die, four injured in separate accidents

Zirakpur/Derabassi Four persons, including a 60-year-old woman, died and four were critically injured in five separate road accidents in the region on Tuesday.

In the first incident, Mayank Bahuguna (28) died when the Hyundai Verna car he was driving rammed into a truck around midnight on the Ambala-Chandigarh Highway. Sources said Bahuguna was overspeeding and the truck came in front of his car all of a sudden resulting in a head-on collision. Bahuguna died on the spot. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Derabassi by the highway patrolling police. The police have arrested the truck driver.

In another accident, Sunil Kumar (18) and Pankaj Kumar (19) were critically injured when a truck hit the motorcycle they were riding on the Zirakpur-Panchkula Highway. Passersby pulled the duo from under the truck and rushed them to the Civil Hospital in Panchkula where Sunil’s condition is stated to be critical. The driver of the truck has been booked by the police.

The accident gave way to a massive traffic jam resulting in yet another accident on the highway. Chanchala Devi (60) was crushed to death when a truck hit the rickshaw she was riding on. She died on the spot. The driver of the truck was caught while trying to escape from the spot. He has been arrested.

Meanwhile, two residents of Dappar were critically injured when a rashly driven truck hit their motorcycle on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Derabassi from where the doctors referred them to GMCH-32. Their condition is stated to be critical. The driver of the truck fled from the spot.

In another accident in Zirakpur, two youths Baljit Singh (27) and Satish Kumar (24) died after an unidentified vehicle hit them on the road opposite PCPL company. in a road accident today.

The police have initiated investigations into the five cases.
