Acting on a tip-off, forest officers rushed to the spot and arrested the four, Ayub Jusab, Ghulam Suleman, Kader Juma and Isa Suleman, residents of Sheriyaj-bara, and recovered four carcasses of Demosile cranes.

They were booked under Rule 9, 50 and 56 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, but were later released on bail on Friday.

They were slapped with a fine of Rs 50,000.

Mangrol Range forest officer C N Zalawadiya, said: “Four carcasses of demosile cranes were recovered from the accused. Besides, traps including cloth kites and net were also recovered from their possession.”

Zalawadiya said the Lambora dam site is a five-km-long sweet water channel running parallel to the coastline.

It is a famous site where thousands of migratory birds congregate between November and February.
