Four of NRI family die on expressway

Pune, November 22 Four of a family were killed and three others seriously injured when their car rammed into a truck near Kivale flyover on the Mumbai-Pune expressway on Saturday morning.

Dehu Road police identified the deceased as Vikas Suresh Birud (34), his wife Padmaja Suresh Birud (28), Aaroh Vikas Birud (18 months) and Kumudbai Suresh Birud (54).

They died on the spot. Mohammed Yakub Shaikh (40), the driver of the car, Vikas's father Suresh Birud (55) and 18-month-old Saura Vikas Birud have been admitted to a private hospital in Nigdi.

The Birud family are non-resident Indians settled in the US but originally hailing from Jalgaon. The family was on a holiday to India. They own a house at Elite Empire Society at Balewadi. Saura and Aaroh are twins.

On Saturday morning, the Birud family was heading for Pune from Mumbai where they were to visit Dr Ingle at Nigdi, when it rammed into the truck.

A police team led by inspector Mahesh Sawant of Dehu Road police station reached the spot.

The bodies of Vikas, Padmaja, Aaroh and Kumudbai were taken to the government hospital in Wadgaon Maval. They were handed over to relatives after post mortem.
