This is the second instance of an undertrial involved in the murder of Congressman Molu Modhvadia fleeing within a fortnight.

The arrested policemen include Manishankar Joshi, Bhoja Devayat, Javed Siddiq and Uka Mald. They were arrested after a case was registered against them.

On Saturday, murder accused Rana Suka Khunti, a resident of Porbandar, fled while being taken to the Junagadh District Jail after a hearing at the Porbandar court.

According to reports, when the police halted for a tea break at Hotel Karnavati near Kutiyana, the accused managed to escape.

Earlier, Jetha Kutchhi had fled in a similar manner on February 12 from the Bagodara highway.

It may be recollected that Molu Modhwadia, a limestone quarry magnate and a close aide of the then Congress Legislative Party Leader Arjun Modhwadia, was shot dead outside his residence in Porbandar in 2003.

Police investigations had revealed the involvement of local gangster Bhima Odedara even as Modhwadia’s family members pointed fingers at Porbadar BJP president Babu Bokhiria.

They had cited a note recovered from Molu’s shirtpocket, which said that he had been facing a life threat from the former minister.
