Police said Jitre failed to note the jeep's registration number, adding that they were working with him to get a description of the assailants.
Jitre, who works in Chanakya Press in the city's Panigate area, filed a complaint with the police at around 2 am. According to his complaint, four men accosted him near the Ambalal Park crossroad, while he was on his way to home. The miscreants attacked him with cricket stumps and sticks injuring him on his left hand, and robbed him of a gold chain, a silver bracelet and cash.
The police, however, could not make much headway in the case, as Jitre could not provide them with much information about his attackers and even faltered in his descriptions to the police. He is now scouring through files of mug shots to try and identify the robbers.
Interestingly, the police arrested Jitre a few hours after he filed the complaint with the authorities when they found him in an inebriated condition at his house.
Sources said that when a police officer went to Jitre's house to question him and some neighbours about the incident, they found him reeking of alcohol. The police then took him to the SSG Hospital where he tested positive for alcohol, following which a case against him was filed for violating the state’s prohibition laws.
