The resignation letters are dated October 29 when the fortnight's deadline given by the DMK MPs to the Centre to halt Sri Lankan troops' offensive against LTTE expires.
The union ministers who handed over their resignation letters to DMK chief are T R Baalu (Shipping), A Raja (Telecom), Subulakshmi Jagadeesan (Minister of State for Social Justice), S Raghupathy (Minister of State for Environment), S S Palanimanickam (Minister of State for Finance), K Venkatapathy (Minister of State for Law) and V Radhika Selvi (Minister of State for Home).
While Karunanidhi's daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi sent her resignation to her farther on Wednesday, other three Rajya Sabha members of DMK--Trichy N Siva, Vasanthi Stanley and A A Jinnah--submitted their letters to the party chief on Thursday.
The other MPs who submitted their resignations to the party chief are C Kuppusami, K C Palanisamy, E G Sugavanam, A K S Vijayan, M S K Bhavani Rajenthiran, A Krishnasamy and Danapal Venugopal.
The resignations were in compliance with a decision taken at an all-party meeting presided by the TN Chief Minister here on Tuesday asked the Centre to act to stop military offensive in Sri Lanka failing which all MPs from the state would quit within a fortnight.
There are in all 16 Lok Sabha MPs but suspended DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran and Indian Union Muslim League MP Khader Mohideen, who had fought the election on DMK symbol, did not come to the party headquarters to submit their resignations.
Citing media reports of India supplying arms to Sri Lanka, a resolution adopted at Tuesday's all-party meeting presided by Karunanidhi had asked the Centre to stop it immediately.
India should take all steps to put an end to the ongoing ethnic strife in the island nation and ensure peace in "Eelam", the resolution had said.
The all-party meeting was attended by leaders of DMK, Congress, PMK and Left parties which have 35 members in Lok Sabha besides two MDMK rebels. MDMK has two members in Lok Sabha.
Main opposition AIADMK, its ally MDMK, BJP and DMDK floated by actor-turned-politician Vijaykant had boycotted the meeting.

So happy these anti-national characters submitted their resignations. I hope Mosquito Karunanidhi also quits with them. They are supporting terrorists (by the way, the only non-Muslim terrorists in the world) who could not live with their adoptive country's laws. It is time for other scoundrels to become wealthy now, at the expense of TN and Indian citizens.
i bet that prabhakaran the chief of LTTE would have told karunanidhi that he will spill the beans of DMK's involvement in teh murder of rajiv ghnadhi whihc must have spurted the DMK to speak in favour of a teerorist, see the end game, a man's widow is supported in power by the very people who had supported / helped the murderers of her husband Rajiv gandhi, such is the blood of the people, i wish to god to give punishment to the widow and the supporters of the terrorist vellupilai prabharkaran.
It is good news that the strength of jokers in the pariament gets reduced by the No. of resignations. These are anti-nationals and should never be re-elected. It is pitifully farcical to see how many more joker MPs opt to black-mail the Union Govt. LS Speaker should accept the resignations immediately after they are received, so that at least the wage bill becomes a saving for the remainder of their tenure before the elections of 2009. It is the utter misfortune of India today that the No. of such characterless members in the parliament

These third-rate politicians will go to any extent for the vote bank. The best solution would be to drop these ministers into Sri Lanka so and make them fight for LTTE. Anyone who opposes the offensive by Sri Lanka against the LTTE should be thrown there.I am sure that one day Sri Lanka will get fed up with the interference by the self-proclaimed superpower, India, and take help from Pakistan and China.
Don't you know that they are getting massive help from Pakistan, Israel and USA: that is the main reason India wants to be in the competitive game of selling weapons to Sri Lanka. If India does not support Sri Lanka, its foreign policy will lead to disaster.American will rejoice if India takes her hands off Sri Lanka.Help the innocent Tamil victims please but Indian Govt will be committing self-imposed suicide by helping Tigers.
It is a political stunt by Karunanidhi to appease his political rivals and ensure success in the next Parliamentary elections. Karunanidhi is smarter than his rivals. Can you imagine Amma the great who fought tooth and nail against Tamil Tigers upporting Tigers- really funny political games that we play in India to come to power or to hold on to the power.Central Congress Admin should not yield to the killers of India's finest Prime Minister by the Tigers until prabakaran is brought to justice. I am with Subramania Swamy on this issue.
These DMK fools are complicating the problem. If India halts arms supply to Sri Lanka, then China and Pakistan will. India should not vacate its legitimate space in Sri Lanka's starategic market. What India should instead do is to leverage that strength to bargain and pitch for peace. We have to deal with Sri Lanka carefully and diligently to preserve friendship, help the Tamils, help establish peace, and keep out China and Pakistan. As on date, India is fully surrounded by enemies: (JIhadi) Pakistan, (Maoist) Nepal, Evil China, and (Jihadi) Bangladesh. We should not lose the only ally worth that tag in our strategic backwaters. These gully goonda politicians should not be allowed to highjack diplomacy and external affairs.
Karunanidhi's people do not even know where to send resignation while resigning from the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. They are unlikely to know anything about Sri Lanka and the action being taken there by Govts of SL and India. Our Govt should just ignore these activities of DMK MPs as these are no more than a political farce.
I believe current stand taken by political parties of Tamilnadu is completely wrong and unwanted. They dont have any right to interfere in the interior matters of other countries. Any unwanted action taken by iindian government under the pressure of their allies will hav enegative affect on our relations with neighbour country especially if it is concerned with their security issue.Secondly it is known fact that LTTE is a terrorist organisation which is involve in large scale violence in Srilnaka and uses childrens for the same. Than how come political parties can support such organisation.I believe this is a high time when Government of india takes a rational decision and snub such a politicaly motivated demands of people with vested interests.
This is yet another election drama, when the LS election are nearing.
a drama which no one will like to accept. as the general elections r coming nearer this party is out to show that they r worried abt tamils. they think people r fools. i think this time they r worried abt the possibilities of loosing many loksabha seats and hence this drama.
Great news. Hope they dont get re-elected
The D.M.K M.P s of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha should have sent their resignation letters to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Chairman of Rajya Sabha if they were geniuenly interested to solve the Burning Sri Lankan Tamil problem but they have submitted the resignation letters to their party president. The people of Tamil Nadu should think before they ink in the next elections who are the true saviours of the Tamils ?????? People think twice before you ink in the next election Free feebies are alone not enough there should be enough Tamil people to recieve and get the benefit from the free feebies.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Being part of the Govt at the centre and ruling in TN, it is strange tyhat MK is giving an impression that DMK is not involved in the goings on in the centre. He may try to fool the public but not the discerning citizens. If his ministers at the centre are not aware or kept in dark by the PM, that is reason enough for the ministers to quit. MK should remember that he is not in opposition to play this drama. The old cunning fox should come clean and say the truth!
Dear PM.,You must be thinkig whether Lalloo Yadav or Karunidhi is the PM.Sonia knew all this. You have been baiit. There is still some time for you to assert. We request you to let all of them know that you and not Snotnia Gandhi is the PM.We have been telling you all along that allll MPs owe allegience to Dr, Singh, except those from Congress. The Congress MPs are number 1 flaterrers. Please assert your position.
This resignation drama is a big farce to fool the people of Tamil Nadu.
It is well understood that our elected representatives cannot be trusted or expected to use power responsibly. Keeping aside your personal ideologies, you have to honour your position and its responsibilites. You cannot hold a government ransom just because MPs in one state believe that injustice is being done to an organisation banned all over the world. Please show similar proactivism for whats wrong here and please let all know what you did for Sri Lankan Tamils and their cause up to now. How can you justify violence?
this is a gimmick by MR. Karunanidhi to turn people atention from shortage of electricity during the elecion time. this is merely a cheap politics by him , and also since no of his central ministers are facing curruption charges his party is in a difficult positon. why his state goverment is not resigning , since the parliament 5 year period is ending it doesn't matter weather resign now or not resigning
Political Buffoons! Send it it to Somnath, he mat be glad to accept. They know where to collect their salaries and claim expenses from, but the not the authority that would accept their resignation!!! Hypocrites!
