Residents of Bhaini Sahib and other surrounding villages availed benefits of the comprehensive dental check-up extended by a team of senior dental surgeons headed by Dr Pawan Arora, Professor and Head, Department of Community Dentistry. Dr Ashish Kumar and Dr Hardeep Singh co-ordinated the camp activities.
The camp was initiated with the dental awareness talk, educating people about common dental ailments, especially tooth decay and gum diseases. Eating patterns and food choices among children and teens are important factors that affect how quickly youngsters may develop tooth decay, highlighted the doctors.
The doctors informed that when bacteria (plaque) come into contact with sugar in the mouth, acid is produced, which attacks the teeth for 20 minutes or more. This can eventually result in tooth decay. The doctors added that to help control the amount of sugar one consumes, one must read food labels and choose foods and beverages that are low in added sugars. Added sugars often are present in soft drinks, candy, cookies and pastries.
A team of senior dental surgeons and para-medical staff provided comprehensive diagnosis and basic scaling treatment, with the aid of a Mobile Dental Van equipped with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic facilities.
Every patient was given a ‘Patient Card’, a report summary of the diagnosed problem and the recommended treatment plan. The camp patients can also avail special concession on follow up treatment at the hospital. Free medicines for various dental problems were given by Baba Jaswant Singh Dental Hospital.
The camp was successfully organized with the cooperation of Kashmir Singh and other members of Gurdwara Committee, Bhaini Sahib.
