Kolkata Mrinal Sen, film-maker
We worked and grew in our profession almost together. There have been several occasions when we didn’t agree with each other, fought, fell out and made up again.

Probably I am the only one left from our times. His demise just reminds me that tomorrow I might not be here too, and somebody else would be talking about me. Sinha was a human being extraordinaire.

Actress Sandhya Roy
Above everything else, this generation of actors have lost the best mentor they could have got. His professional discipline is something that is lost on Tollywood now. Young actors today could have learnt a lot from him.

Director Haranath Chakraborty
He is my inspiration. Most people in the industry remember him as a Bengali Saheb. He was a man who was almost British in his body language. I started my first film only after he gave me the go-ahead.

Jagadish Pandey, noted film producer
I remember during a film shoot, Sinha threw away roti and curry prepared for lunch because he couldn’t see his crew have such a meagre meal. He was very involved with his colleagues.

Prosenjit Chatterjee, who worked in Atanko (1986):
If one worked with Sinha even for a few scenes, it made up for a lifetime of learning in cinema. He was that thorough about his work.

Goutam Ghose, film director
Though he was an iconic director, he always took time out to go for the preview shows of young filmmakers and actors. He used to notice minute details about their work and told them how to develop.

Soumitro Chatterjee, colleague
Sinha changed my image as an actor with his direction in Jhinder Bondi (1961).Though he had not been keeping well for a long time, the fact that he was there was also an inspiration.

Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi Sinha’s death is a great loss not only to cinema, but also to humanity.

Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool chief
Tapan Sinha’s death is a loss that cannot be overcome anytime soon.
