Ludhiana, February 3 For the hockey star Gagan Ajit Singh it seems a change of role from running on the astroturf wielding hockey stick and scoring goals for the country to donning Khaki uniform and cracking down on crime. This ace hockey player recently joined as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the city and is presently undergoing training.

The hockey star, who was made a DSP in 2002 along with some other players like cricketer Harbhajan Singh, has recently joined the Punjab Police. His first posting was at Muktsar where he joined as under training DSP in August last year. He took the charge of the city only recently.

“Though I was made DSP in 2002 but I could not join that time as I was busy playing hockey for the country. Now, when I have joined the Punjab police, I have decided to devote myself to it wholeheartedly,” said the ace hockey player while speaking to Newsline.

When asked what the difference he felt between playing for the country and being in the police, the former India hockey captain said, “Both are different experiences. While through hockey, I have always tried to make the country proud, through police my motive would be to serve the people.”

Gagan Ajit said due to busy training schedule, he was not finding time to play his game or do exercises he used to do while playing his game. “But I am not complaining. Now my emphasis would be on my job and if I don’t get any time to play the game, it’s not a big deal.”

The star striker said the behaviour of the senior police officials here and his colleagues and other police personnel has been very warm and cordial. “They all are very friendly and very helpful in getting me learn my new job,” Gagan Ajit added.
