Kolkata Maoists kill CPM man, abduct womanbr>* Suspected Maoists allegedly abducted a woman from Letham village at Bandwan in Purulia after killing her 52-year-old uncle Nandalal Besra, a CPM supporter, late on Sunday night. According to the police, about 10-12 armed Maoists raided the house of Nandalal last night and dragged him out along with his nephew Anima Besra (32), who works with the ICDS project. While locals found Nandalal’s body in the field, they failed to trace Anima. The village is located about 25 kms from Bandwan police station and is located very close to Jharkhand border. SP of Purulia, Rajesh Yadav, said the police searched the adjacent forest area to trace Anima but in vain. Two days ago, the CPM had held a rally at Bandwan where party leaders announced to oust the Maoists from the village.

Landmines recovered from ‘hideout’br>* The police recovered 12 landmines from a hideout of Maoists leaders in Gosaibandh village under Binpur police station area on Monday. The raid at a hideout was conducted following a specific tip-off, said police. The place was used as a hideout by Sashadhar Mahato, CPI-Maoists state committee member, and his wife Suchitra Mahato. “We had information that Sashadhar and Suchitra along with five squad members were camping at the village for the last 4-5 days. However, when our forces reached the spot, they fled from the area,” said Manoj Verma, SP, W Midnapore.

PCAPA calls bandh on August 26br>* The Maoist-backed PCAPA has called for a bandh on August 26 in Junglemahal to protest against alleged killing of their supporters by “CPM goons”. PCPA spokesperson Monoj Mahato said the bandh would be preceded by a no-cooking day (Arandhan) on August 24.
