Kolkata The ruling CPM has started a campaign against DSP Partha Sarathi Bose, CBI Special Crime Branch in Kolkata, who was arrested on December 28 while taking a bribe from a truck driver.

A delegation of Left Front MLAs met Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Friday and sought his intervention to reinvestigate the death of Rizwanur Rehman, whose case was being probed by Bose. The legislators, led by CPM leader Rabindra Nath Mondal, also submitted a memorandum pointing out that Bose might have been “influenced to protect Trinamool Congress legislator Javed Khan, Rizwanur’s relatives and some other police officers”. The MLAs informed Gandhi that Khan, who was named by Rehman in his suicide note, did not figure in the CBI chargesheet.

Emerging from the meeting, Mondal wondered why Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was “trying to protect” Bose. “The investigation conducted by Bose and his team was biased and does not disclose facts. Bose, having been recently arrested on charges of corruption, raises a serious doubt,” said Mondal. Other than the Rehman case, Bose was probing several politically-sensitive cases, including Tapasi Malik’s murder in Singur and CPM cadres’ involvement in the March 14 police firing in Nandigram.
