Fun time for docs: Ectopia-2008 gets off to a colourful start at DMCH

Ludhiana, January 31 The three-day annual cultural programme ‘Ectopia-2008’ got off to a colourful start at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at Dumra Auditorium here today. During the three-day festival, undergraduate medical students will compete for top honours in various talent contests.

The function commenced with the inauguration ceremony by the Secretary of DMCH Managing Society Prem Kumar Gupta in the presence of Principal Dr Daljit Singh, Vice Principal Dr J Whig, Medical Superintendents Dr Sandeep Puri, Dr Rajoo Singh Chinna, Dr BS Shah, members of DMC Cultural Committee and other faculty members.

Dr Daljit Singh applauded the efforts of the students and the staff for organizing the programme and wished best of luck to the participants. Prem Kumar Gupta released the mascot, ‘Nino the butterfly’, which symbolizes freedom, fun and joyous times.

Dr Sandeep Puri, Chairperson of DMCH Cultural Committee, extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries, faculty and students, present at the function. About 300 students of undergraduate classes are participating in different events and various talent hunt competitions during this three-day event.

The chief guests, members of the DMC Cultural Committee and faculty members, were presented with a copy of official newsletter ‘Ectopia Times’, which was prepared by Dr Anurag Chaudhary, Dr Suman Puri, Dr Ashish Ahuja and Dr Harish Matta and student correspondents are Neha Thakur, Shaurya Sharma, Vainy, Abhay and Anirudh.

The cultural events for the day included ‘Milte hain break ke baad’ (Ad Fads), ‘Bindaas Bol’ (Debate-Hindi/Punjabi) and ‘Mind Grill’ (Quiz). The evening session of Day 1 will include Taal Mel (group song) and Loose Control (solo dance - boys and girls).

Today’s attraction of the day was a competition on ‘Ad Fads’, in which the students had to conceptualise and enact an advertisement, based on a humorous concept of product/services like ‘Dadagiri Biscuits’ and ‘Chokri.com’. The excellent performance and humorous ideas left the audience in splits.

The results of the Pre-Ectopia events are as follows. Painting: 1.Anita (Batch 2007), 2.Gurkirat (Batch 2003), 3. Kamalpreet Kaur (Batch 2006) & Harmeet (Batch 2005). Sketching: 1.Gurkirat (Batch 2003), 2. Neha (Batch 2005) and Pavneet (Batch 2007), 3. Sandeep (Batch 2005). Collage Making: 1.Batch 2004, 2.Batch 2003, 3.Batch 2003.

Day 1 Events: Ad Fads: 1.Batch 2004, 2. Batch 2004, 3. Batch 2005 & Batch 2006. Debate: 1.Suhasini (Batch 2005), 2. Shazia (Batch 2006), 3. Pawani (Batch 2003).

Mind Grill (Quiz): Out of five teams, Divyanshu and Sameer of Batch 2004 won. Batch 2003 got the second position and Batch 2007 stood third.
