Pune, January 6 After a slight increase in the minimum temperature two weeks ago, the city recorded a minimum of 10 degree Celsius, one degree below normal, on Sunday. And if weather officials are to be believed, Pune may well brace itself for a further dip in the temperature. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted a low of nine degrees Celsius for Monday.

“The northerly winds have lowered the temperature lately,” said A B Majumdar, deputy director general, IMD. Since January 1, the maximum temperature has been in the range of 31 to 33 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature was 13 on Tuesday, 11 on Wednesday, 11 on Thursday, 13 on Friday, 11 on Saturday and finally 10 degree on Sunday.

“Some time ago, the temperature went up because there was south and southeasterly component to the winds here. That was when the south was seeing hot weather. Now the winds are coming from the north. As it is snowing in the north, it is having some effect here and the winds are bringing in lower temperature,” he said. The city also saw “stronger than normal” winds on Sunday because of the same northerly components, said Majumdar.
