Gabria was addressing the meeting organised to mark the completion of first year of the SAD-BJP government at Jagirpur village on the outskirts of the city. At the function, the minister also distributed cheques of grants amounting to Rs 13.21 lakh among the panchayats of 34 villages falling along Rahon road.
Listing the achievements of the government, Gabria said that the government had launched World Bank- sponsored Water Supply and Sanitation Programme worth Rs 1,280 crore, out of which Rs 751 crore was being contributed by the World Bank and Rs 245.40 crore would be the share of state government. The Centre would contribute Rs 207.20 crore to the project.
Under this project, grants of Rs 15 crore were being spent in Ludhiana rural constituency to implement Water Supply and Sanitation Programme and improvement of village ponds projects in 20 villages during the current financial year and additional grant of Rs 20 crore would be released in the next financial year.
He said that the road network in Punjab was being strengthened at a cost of Rs 3,035 crore. He said that the government had also launched a special irrigation project for rehabilitation and strengthening of Major Canal System costing to Rs 3243 crore, out of which, funds amounting to Rs 1043.93 crore were being spent for rehabilitation and strengthening of major canal systems, Rs 308.50 crore on the new minors and distributaries and widening and strengthening of existing minors/distributaries and Rs 67.72 crore on minor irrigation schemes.
