In Punjab, Hoshiarpur district was included in the list of disadvantaged districts. A sub-project entitled “Sustainable livestock-based farming system for livelihood security in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab” was awarded to Guru Angad Dev Veterinary And Animal Sciences University here.
There are four partner institutes including Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana as lead Institute and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Dairy Development Department, Punjab and the Unati Co-op Marketing-cum Processing Society Ltd., Talwara, Hoshiarpur district, as the cooperating institutes.
Dr A L Saini, professor-cum-principal investigator of the project, explained that it is a participatory type project, which would be implemented with the collaboration of other state development departments like Department of Animal Husbandry, Department of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture, Dist. Co-op. Milk Producers’ Union Ltd., Department of Soil Conservation, Department of Forests, Department of Fisheries, Punjab National Bank, Hoshiarpur and NABARD etc. for comprehensive development of small, medium, landless, laborer/ farmers of the identified villages.
