The CVE was organised to give hands-on training to the veterinary officers, so that the diagnosis of brucellosis is carried out at field level. According to a statement issued here, this will help in controlling this dreadful zoonotic disease in the state.
The CVE programme was organized simultaneously at 11 centres at Ludhiana, Hisar, Pantnagar, Jabalpur, Bhubneshwar, Bikaner, Tirupati, Mumbai, Guwahati, IVRI and Chennai. The CVE was coordinated by Dr S S Singh, Dean of College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana.
The training was carried out in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology by Dr Narinder Singh Sharma, Senior Veterinary Bacteriologist and Dr Shukriti Sharma, Assistant Prof, Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. Sixteen Veterinary Officers from the Directorate of Punjab State Animal Husbandry Department attended the programme, and were given certificates at the valedictory function on January 5 by Dr H M Saxena, Prof-cum-Head, Department of Veterinary Microbiology.
He highlighted that the CVE is an opportunity for the State Animal Husbandry Officers to interact and gain hands-on practice in different serological tests like Rose Bengal Plate Agglutination Test, Standard Tube Agglutination Test, Mil Ring Test and ELISA. These tests are recommended by World Animal Health Organization (OIE) for diagnosis of brucellosis and for international trade. The participants attended lectures on all aspects of brucellosis.
