The course was attended by executives from Military Dairy Farms in Hyderabad, Secundrabad, Agra and Meerut, along with the instructor BK Malhotra. The training course focused on dairy farming and its scientific management.
Along with this, a visit to the farm power machinery department at PAU, was also undertaken to acquaint them with the latest farm tools. Special lectures on culture sensitivity testing, value addition of milk and poultry rearing were arranged following their request. The major expenditure in dairy farming is on feed and fodder, and the trainees were guided to ascertain the availability of green fodder to the animals throughout the year.
Fodder preservation methods and the latest herbicides/pesticide application on fodder were also dealt with. Special emphasis was laid on reproductive problems, zoonotic diseases, and artificial induction of lactation. A field visit to the Bhaini Sahib’s dairy farm was also undertaken for witnessing the field conditions.
Dr RS Sahota, Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension and Course Director, said that the whole training programme was conducted as the need of the trainees, and they were satisfied with the training programme.
BK Malhotra, Manger-cum-Instructor, said that GADVASU has been earmarked for giving training to the army personnel on livestock farming, and this is the third training in a row organized at the vet varsity, Ludhiana. Dr HK Verma and Dr Jaswinder Singh were the coordinators.
