After having ruled the green fields for over three decades, the members of Shivajians Sports Club (SSC) are together, this time for a brighter future of the game that they have loved all their lives. The members of SSC had organised a football match between old and the new members of the club to celebrate the reunion of the club after a gap of almost a decade on December 28.

According to Kunal Chakranarayan, member, SSC, "We had organised the match with a motive to bring together the veterans as well as the youngsters on the same ground. While the veterans scored the first goal, the match was finally a draw between the two teams. The match was played on University of Pune ground"

The Shivajians Sports Club, a well-known sports club was established in the late 70s to promote football in the city. With over 400 members, including national players like Jayant Sinha and Emmanuel Jeevan that are spread across the globe in countries such as the UK, the USA, Sudan, Belgium and so on, the club has a legacy, that has created a niche for itself in the hearts of football lovers in the city.

Elaborating on the current status of the game in the city, Rahul Kshirsagar, member, says, "People of Pune love football. But the sad part of the story is that none of the parents believe that football can be looked at as a profession. If not profession, there is no harm in seeking a balance between the game and academics at least. It is for this reason that we have came together so that the veterans of the club can now on act as guiding force for the new generation footballers."
