In a press statement issued by the Raj Bhavan on Saturday, Gandhi termed the judiciary’s decision
as unavoidable and observed that auto-rickshaw owners need advice and assistance to implement the change.
“The protests following attempts of the government to implement the High Court order are taking a very undesirable step,” read the press statement.
The Governor also pointed out that the incidents of violence which have occurred in the recent past neither further the interest of auto-rickshaw owners or drivers nor of the poor, for they suffer the most from air pollution.
The Governor suggested that the government should take all possible steps to see that the switchover to clean fuel is smooth for the owners of the auto-rickshaws. Gandhi also opined that leaders should come forward with constructive suggestions to facilitate the implementation of order.
