Ludhiana A police party from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)-II staff stumbled across a gang of four thieves at a naka on Thursday evening. The gang, during the last one year, was allegedly involved in around 200 cases of snatching and thefts in the city. On the basis of their disclosure, the police later arrested two more persons who used to purchase stolen wares from them.

Kishan Kumar Sharma, Jatinder Kumar Sharma and Sanjay Kumar Sharma, residents of Railway Colony and Shammi Kumar, a resident of Jawahar Nagar, were arrested behind the Arya College. On their confession, the police arrested Rajeev Kumar alias Vicky and Narpinder Singh alis Shallu.

Addressing a press conference, SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill told the mediapersons that the gang members were arrested by the police party from CIA-II led by in-charge sub-inspector Dilpreet Singh Shergill.

The police party got secret information that the gang members were roaming in the area on two motorcycles. While the police party had received this information at a naka near the Domoria Bridge, the police shifted the checkpost on the road near the cremation ground, behind the Arya College and intercepted the gang members on their motorcycles.

The police also claimed to have recovered two stolen laptops and 101 mobile phones from their possession. SSP Dr Gill said that further investigations were on in this connection and more cases were likely to be solved with the arrest of these members.
