Lucknow With the victim recording her statement before a magistrate, the noose further tightened around Ram Mohan Garg, “former” chairman of the UP Fisheries Development Corporation. Garg was arrested on Thursday on charges of rape.

Senior Superintendent of Police of Aligarh Asim Arun said: “Prima facie, the charges against Garg have been established. He will be brought to Aligarh and will be produced before the court on Saturday.”

The police team will now collect evidence from the place where the woman was allegedly raped and the video CD was shot. The other charges in the FIR will be corroborated after the accused is taken in remand, said Arun.

The corporation was giving Garg Rs 35,000 per month as perks, and a tour allowance for travelling between Aligarh — his home town — and Lucknow, where the corporation has its office.

He had fixed a meeting of the board on Friday to discuss the budget, but everybody was shocked to get the news of his arrest from newspapers. There was no official word to the corporation from the government regarding his resignation.

“We were scheduled to have a board meeting as the budget and expenses were to be discussed. We learnt from newspapers that he had resigned,” said Dr Ram Raj, Chief Managing Director.

“I had spoken to him on Thursday to greet him, but he did not tell me anything about his resignation. We are waiting for an official confirmation,” he added.
