Mumbai Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted bail to gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli’s brother Vijay Ahire in a MCOCA case.

The court has directed him not to leave the city and to attend the police station whenever required. Ahire was booked under the stringent MCOCA for alleged extortion and organised crime syndicate activities last year. He was arrested for allegedly threatening a central Mumbai-based builder in March last year. Gawli was also arrested in this case a few days later.

Ahire contended that MCOCA cannot be slapped on him as it requires the filing of at least two chargesheets individually. The state contended that multiple chargesheets against the syndicate is enough and there was no need to chargesheet them individually.

The court, however, granted him bail based on the conditions.
