New Delhi, July 29 Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated a modular neurosurgery operation theatre at the GB Pant hospital today.

The hospital, associated with the Maulana Azad Medical College, is now the only hospital in the capital to have a pre-fabricated operation theatre. The section is part of the first phase of setting up a neurosurgery OT-ICU complex with six modular theatres and 33 ICU beds with equipment for advanced neurosurgical procedures. The complex involves the setting up of dedicated operation theatres for neurovascular procedures, steriotactic surgeries, functional neurosurgery and epilepsy surgery, and image- guided neurosurgery for deep seated brain and spine lesions.

The CM also inaugurated the first epilepsy-monitoring unit at the hospital—another first for government hospitals in Delhi. Among specialised facilities inaugurated today is the Arrhythmia Centre that offers updated treatment facilities for both slow and fast heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmia).

The centre will add to the tertiary heart care facilities in Delhi and in North India, officials said. A separate building for specialised and dedicated cardio care has been constructed. It is equipped with advanced cardiac diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.

A 24-hour surveillance system has also been installed to facilitate smooth working in the hospital.
