Chandigarh Srishti, the environment society of GCG-42, organised an environment awareness campaign on Friday in collaboration with the Punjab and Chandigarh Department of Science and Technology (D&ST) and the biological association of the college.

An inter-college collage-making and debate competition was held in which over 100 students from various colleges participated.

Principal Shashi Malik gave away the prizes to the winners. Earlier in the day, Malik also inaugurated a ‘Solar Green House’ at the college campus which has a collection of more than 200 plants including a wide range of ornamental, evergreen and medicinal plants. Financial assistance for the establishment of the Green House has been provided by the D&ST.

The day’s events concluded with a talk on climate change by Dr Daizy Rani Batish from the Botany department of Panjab University. A cleanliness drive was also carried out on the college campus and students were sensitised about biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and the need to keep the environment clean.
