Vadodara The Gujarat Electricity Board Engineers’ Association (GEBEA) has demanded an immediate wage revision for employees of the seven companies, which came into existence after the state electricity board was unbundled in 2004.

The pay revision is due since January 1, 2006, and the demands of the 50,000 employees of these seven companies have been submitted to the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), which is a holding company, said GEBEA Secretary General Gadhvi Lalsingh Arjundanji.

Despite the submission of the charter of demands, GUVNL is not taking any decision in this regard and is not initiating any steps for revision, he said.

When the state government has decided to implement the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, there is no reason as to why GUVNL should not do it, Gadhvi said.

This will be the first pay revision of the employees after the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) was divided into seven companies and that is why the expectations of the employees are high. They want to be adequately rewarded for having toiled hard to turn these companies into profit making ventures, he said.

Gadhvi said that their demand for pay revision should be conceded before the Lok Sabha polls, which are due this April-May.

The seven companies of the Gujarat Electricity Board are — the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), the Gujarat State Electricity Company, Gujarat Energy Transmission Company, the Madhya Gujarat Vij Company, the North Gujarat Vij Company, the South Gujarat Vij Company and the Paschim Gujarat Vij Company.
