Vadodara, March 4 Amul icecreams will soon become more costly in the state. The hike in prices of Amul icecream follows a recent hike in the prices of Amul milk across the state. The apex body of Amul brand milk products' marketing—Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has declared a five to ten per cent price rise in different varieties of ice creams. The GCMMF earns nearly 300 crore per year from the sale of Amul ice creams.

GCMMF general manager (marketing), R S Sodhi, said, "We have increased prices in February. The present hike is a normal phenomenon. Prices of these products are hiked during summers." He added that the rise in the prices of input goods such as milk prices, VAT and other factors also played a crucial role in the recent hike. Sodhi claimed that the company was paying nearly 25 per cent extra to milk farmers as compared to pervious years.

Sodhi said, "The months of April, May and June witnesses massive consumption of ice creams. The demand for Amul ice creams witnesses an increase of about 40 per cent in these months."

The GCMMF owned Amul icecreams are manufactured in nearly 40 flavours. Amul operates nearly nine ice cream production plants operating across country.
