Ghaziabad The district top police officer has sent non-performing personnel in Ghaziabad into a tizzy by suspending all officers of a chowki in the city.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) L Ravi Kumar suspended all officers of Shyam Nagar Extension police chowki for their failure to crack a case within the allotted time. Among those suspended are constables Udayveer, Shiv Kumar, Santosh and Sub-Inspector Brahmjeet Singh.

SSP Ravi Kumar said the errant police officers failed to carry out his order to recover cash and valuables stolen from a man in front of the chowki.

“I gave them 24 hours to recover the stolen amount but they did not take the order seriously,” Kumar said. “They thought this might be just another request, the SSP asking them to control crime in their jurisdiction.”

He said another reason for suspending the officers is the “likelihood” that they might be involved with miscreants who committed the crime. “Investigations are on,” Kumar said.

The suspension comes two says after Ghaziabad-based businessman Sanjay Swaroop was robbed of cash and jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh. Swaroop was in his car, parked in front of Shyam Park chowki of the Sahibabad police station, when the incident took place.

As a rider, Kumar has asked all chowki-in charge and constables of Ghaziabad police that “appropriate action” will be taken against them if incidents of loot or theft are not solved within 24 hours. “Only station house officers have been penalised till date for such shortcomings,” he said.

“But we have received complaints against some personnel at the lower level for connivance with local anti-social elements. Now, they will also bear the brunt.”
