Ghaziabad The district top cop has sent non-performing police officials in Ghaziabad into a tizzy by suspending all officials of a police chowki in the city.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) L Ravi Kumar suspended all officials of Shyam Nagar Extension police chowki for their failure to crack a case within an allotted time. Among those suspended are Constables Udayveer, Shiv Kumar, Santosh and Sub-Inspector Brahmjeet Singh.

SSP Ravi Kumar said the errant police officials failed to carry out his order to recover cash and valuables looted from a man in front of the chowki. “I gave them 24 hours to recover the loot amount but they did not take the order seriously,” SSP Ravi Kumar said. “They thought this might be just another request from the SSP asking them to control crime in their jurisdiction.”

He said another reason for suspending the officials is the “likelihood” that they might be involved with miscreants who committed the crime. “Investigations are on,” SSP Ravi Kumar said.

The suspension comes two says after a Ghaziabad-based businessman, one Sanjay Swaroop, was robbed of cash and jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakhs on Sunday. Swaroop was in his car, parked in front of Shyam Park chowki of Sahibabad police station, when the incident took place.

As a rider, SSP Kumar has asked all chowki-in charge and constables of Ghaziabad police that “appropriate action” would be taken against them if incidents of loot or theft are not solved within 24 hours. “Only Station House Officers have been penalized till date for such shortcomings,” he said. “But we have received complaints against some personnel at the lower level for connivance with local anti-social elements. Now they would also bear the brunt.”
