Ghaziabad The district will see its fifth Superintendent of Police (SSP) in six months with Raj Kumar, who had joined duty just three days ago, being transferred to Bijnore as part of a major reshuffle of Uttar Pradesh Police.

Kumar had joined work on Monday, replacing Brij Lal Meena, who had hurt himself in a freak incident last month when his service revolver went off accidentally, injuring his left hand.

Kumar has now been posted as SSP Bijnore replacing Chandra Prakash, who has been shifted to Firozabad in the same capacity.

Lucknow SSP Akhil Kumar will take Kumar’s place in Ghaziabad, while DIG (Agra range) N K Srivastava will join as SSP-Lucknow.

Akhil Kumar is credited with eliminating hardcore criminal Raksh Hasanpuria in the city when he was a part of a Special Task Force, and also played a key role in solving the Vaibhav kidnapping case in which abductors had demanded Rs 3 crore from the child’s father, a CEO.

In all, 33 senior IPS officers’ postings were reshuffled on Wednesday, a day after UP Chief Minister Mayawati announced a revamp of the police set-up in the state which saw government abolishing posts of IG (zones) and appointing DIGs as SSPs in big cities.
