Pune A student of ILS Law College fell unconscious at the Pune International Airport at Lohegaon on Saturday evening after allegedly coming in contact with a live wire.

The girl, Kanika Sharma, was taken to hospital by Col. Dr. Tejinder Bhatti, a plastic surgeon at Command Hospital in Wanavdi, who was present at the airport when the girl fell unconscious.

He took the girl to the military hospital in Kondhwa. Bhatti said he had gone to the airport to receive his wife and Sharma was apparently there to receive a relative.

Bhatti said the girl received an electric shock after she came in contact with a cable. There was some construction work going on near the railing. The girl fell down from the railing, said Bhatti.

However, G Chandramauli, Airport Director ruled out an electric shock.

“We spoke to some eyewitnesses who said the girl fell down from the railing all of a sudden and fell unconscious. There was a dead cable at the spot that had no current flow. So there is no evidence of an electric shock,” Chandramauli said.

“We are probing the case. If there is a lapse, we are ready to lodge a police complaint against the person responsible for the incident. But as of now, we don’t know the reason why the girl fell down and became unconscious,” he added.

Bhatti maintained that the girl had received a severe electric shock. “I was standing close to the girl when she fell down. We rushed her to the hospital in our vehicle,” said Bhatti.

“I am a doctor and I am sure the girl received a cardiac shock due the contact with the live wire and lost consciousness. She is out of danger now, but has not yet recovered completely. The cable was lifted and moved to a safe spot only after some citizens at the Airport raised their voice,” he said.
